OK, so I woke up, showered and headed off to Shatz for brunch. I ended up meeting Ed and Laurel there, which was very nice.
I got home and procrastinated for about 2 hours before finally starting my MechE homework. I was surprised at how much of a writing assignment it was. The first problem was to give two reasons why a MechE would be involved in a whole list of things like graphite epoxy skis and tennis racquets, ATM's and elevators. That ended up being an entire page, handwritten. Next was a 250 essay about which invention/development was not included on the ASME 'top ten' list, but should have been (I chose the space shuttle) (more on that list in a minute). Following that there were a whole bunch of elementary unit-conversion problems. However, one took me forever. It was not a 'unit conversion' problem, as such, rather I had to confirm that some value, Pr (a measure of convection) was indeed unitless/dimensionless (same thing). However, it took me forever to actually get it to work out, most frustrating. At the end there was another 250 word essay, this time on one of ASME's top ten inventions. I was assigned "Codes and Standards" which, while not as exciting as the Airplane, is actually a fun read. ASME's top ten list is:
1. Automobile
2. Apollo
3. Power generation
4. Agricultural mechanization
5. Airplane
6. Integrated circuit mass production
7. Air conditioning and refrigeration
8. CAD/CAM and other CAE technology
9. Bioengineering
10. Codes and standards
Yea, so that was fun. however, by the time I was done, my afternoon had disappeared: it was 4:30, snowing and getting dark out. Oh well, at least I was productive. I also did two full loads of laundry that is sitting next to me, waiting impatiently to be put away.
After that I headed over to the U. After a smidgen of phone tag, Miriam joined me and we talked for a while. Eventually a whole chunk of the CS lounge showed up. Following that I walked home, sat down at my computer and here I am. What will I do for the rest of the evening? Probably WoW for a bit, talk to people. Maybe watch a movie. I do have Blade. And Napoleon Dynamite...hrm.
Oh, in further news, I signed up for LJ and established a HTWT Annex over there. I'll do a quick post there whenever I update this, so that those LJers among you can add me to you friends and check through that for updates. Clever, huh?
