Not encouraging words coming from your calc TA. Granted, it may have been tiredness talking, but I'm already having doubts about him. It's especially bad, I think, in comparision to my calc TA last semester who was obviously really invested in us and was incredibly excited about math in general. Oh well, he has the rest of the semester.
Speaking of the rest of the semester, I've decided to not try and take 15-111 because I already have 4 other full-time classes, a job (more on that in a minute) and SAE and SnS stuff. Another real class was not what I needed. Hopefully I'll take it next semester.
Back to the beginning of the day...
I had intended to get up in time to allow for breakfast before my 8:30 calc rec. No luck. I lay in bed for ~20-30 min after my alarm went off, which struck any chance for shatz in the morning. Physics rec was interesting. Lots of good people in that class; should make waking up for an 8:30 class more enjoyable.
So I had talked to Prof Garrison about what I'm doing for my job and he said to stop by today, in the afternoon. I figured I'd be all efficient and go grab food at Asiana beforehand then head over to his office on the 3rd floor of Wean. Turns out Asiana/the whole food court was mobbed and I headed back to the UC and got a quesadilla from Si Senor, which was also mobbed. After that I headed back to Wean and got to his office and turns out he was on the phone; could I come back in 10 minutes? Alright, so I knew it takes like 3-4 minutes from Wean to the UC, I thought I'd get my new PAT sticker on my ID card. Unfortunately, there was a long line there too. I ended up coming back like 15-20 minutes later. Oh well. Turns out what we're doing is far cooler than I expected.
OK, so modern aircraft landing gear is made from steel alloys that are relatively inexpensive, but suffer from lots of corrosion and need to be coated with all manner of things, including cadmium. Not something you want flying all over the place, and, more importantly, it's going to be outlawed soon. So waht we're doing is developing stainless steel (corrosion resistant) alloys features relatively large wt% of Cobalt (generally between 10 and 20). What I'll be doing is cutting specimens for various tests and then helping Prof Garrison do various tests, some involving molten salt. He gave me a spiffy lab notebook and a cool little 6in ruler that is marked in 10ths and 100ths of an inch. I go in on friday where he'll show me the lab and the saw and stuff I get to use.
I spent a while today playing WoW because I felt like I had no homework. Luckily Doug reminded me at dinner that there was physics due on friday. I got the bookwork done and I'll finish up the programming part of it tomorrow (later today by now, I guess) after class.
Today seemed to go by both very quickly and very slowly. It feels like I woke up a long time ago, but it also doesn't feel like I spent ~1 hr doing physics HW and another several hours playing WoW. Crazy. Well, shower time.
[EDIT:] Sweet!!! My post wasnt really eaten by blogger, the datestamp just got set to Jan 2nd somehow so it was off the page and the 5-post list that I bring up on the control panel.
