There's some interesting discussion in there about what fosters an interest in math and science in people. For me I think it can be narrowed down to a few specific items:
- Legos
- Star Trek TNG
- New Yankee Workshop (and any number of other 'home improvement' shows on PBS)
Interestingly enough, I didn't really read much Sci-Fi as a 'youngster' though I'm sure I would've been enthralled by a set of Heinlein's 'juvenile' novels. I did generally read 'good' books, though. No 'Goosebumps' for me, and I only really read the earlier, "better" 'Box Car Children' books.
