First of all, Jackson is neither black nor a man, so that comparison goes right out the window. Second, Nelson Mandela was imprisioned for 27 years because of his political ideals. He eventually was released and ended apartheid in South Africa. Jackson calls himself the "King of Pop," dangles small children that he claims are his outside multi-story buildings and quite possibly touches pre-pubescent boys . I just don't see the connection.
In other news, Jesus has apparently taken the fence. I wish I'd gotten a picture today. Oh well, I guess all you who're not-cool-enough to be at CMU will just have to take my word for it.
This weekend has been quite relaxed for me. Very, actually, and it's really nice. Saturday I woke up, and proceeded to spend the rest of the day in the Dungeon, basically. (Completely off-topic, but Jethro Tull's 'Bungle in the Jungle' just followed 'Hakuna Matata' on my playlist...ah shuffle, how I love you). First we worked on our MechE car for a coupla hours and then there was a The Wiz build to which one actor attended, in addition to Drew, Rob and myself. We did get lotsa stuff cut (mostly Lauan) (in addition to the huge amount of 2x4 that Drew and I cut and labeled ourselves on friday evening) and now our paint charge has lotsa stuff to paint, so this time, at least, we're not holding her up. Yay.
Going back in time...
Friday afternoon/evening turned out to be pretty good. I ended up hangin' with the Heros for lots of the evening. Their RA left, or so they thought, for the weekend without closing/locking his door. Needless to say, deviousnesss was afoot. In the least-subtle action, they tore up one of the phonebooks that made them famous and stuffed his drawers with it. Unfortunately, it mostly ended up on the floor. Next we took all the posters ( you know, stuff about Frat rush calenders and self-defense courses and stuff) that the RA loves to arrange carefully on the walls and move them into his room, coating his walls. Following that we took his mattress and bumped his bedframe up a notch and then carefully made his bed. It really looked like there was a mattress there. However, in our subtlest and most awesome move, we took a picture of Mitch and put his face into a picture of the RA and his girlfriend. There was an uncanny resemblence. Alejo is also the kind of photoshopper that makes it so noone can trust a photo anymore; he can really do some amazing things. I ended up watching large amounts of Tommy Boy and making a late-night O run. One of the best moments of the night was when Mitch (who has some form of nudity spidey-sense) came into the Matts' room just at the pool scene of Tommy Boy. It was fantastic timing on his part.
Today I woke up 11ish and turned off my alarm. I decided I was far too tired and far too comfortable to get up, so I didn't. I fell right back asleep for another hour, then spent 15 min. I ended up Shatzing with some of the Heros and then proceeded to 'waste' 3+ hours on the computer/internet. It was fun. I ended up hitting up the U for dinner with Drew. I ended up meeting/eating with two future hall-mates, Alex and Pamela. They currently live down the hall from Drew in Mudge C-basement and basically his entire floor is moving up two floors to C tower second floor. A coupla people obviously arn't, leaving room for me and a couple other people to join in the fun. I think it'll be great living in Mudge next year. The only potential drawback is Mudge being more out of the way than 'Schlag (though not by much) and that I'll no longer be on the first floor. However, 'schlag itself is up a long flight of stairs from the street, while Mudge is not, so I'll probably be living at a lower state of gravitational potential next year, even though I'm living on the second floor.
Anyway...not much else of note happened today. There was a fairly successful production meeting for The Wiz today. Speaking of which, if you're at CMU and not otherwise involved with the show already, we'd love for you to be on crew (run, spotlight, costume, props or makeup) for the show! If you are interested email Aaron (the Technical Director, atarnow@) or Zach (stage manager, zph@). Aaron's cooler, and he'll probably hug you. I guess that's a plus or minus, depending. Even if you can't help you, you should definitely come see! It'll be awesome.
Everybody rejoice! Scotch'n'Soda Theatre proudly presents...
